AS the indoor bowls season draws to a close, the Horncastle Indoor Bowls Club is celebrating a very successful year.
In the county leagues the Ladies Trudy Bates team finished in second place in their division, the best result for some years.

The Mixed League, despite an indifferent start, also finished in second place.

The Men's Over 60s team stay in the ve
ry strong first division and their LIBA League team headed division 3 to gain promotion.

But it really proved to be the ladies' year, with Horncastle players getting through to the semi-final stage of the County Championships, the last 16 stage - and further - of the National Championships and also taking part in the county side for the national final of the Atherley cup against Surrey.

The club's own finals this year have been, in most cases, very close fought matches. Results: pairs - Bill Preston and Ted Tasker beat Tom Scholey and George Wells 32 – 14, pairs Jackie Green and Nora Flint beat Olive Wells and Jill King 19 – 17; triples - Dave Tompkins, Bill Preston and Ted Tasker beat Pat Baxter, Lesley Holmes and Judy Moody 18-15; men's fours – won by Bill Preston, Ted Tasker, Dave Tompkins and David Grimwood; ladies' fours won by Olive Wells, Jill King, Mary Johnson and Mo Grant; mixed fours - Cynthia Bird, Jackie Green, Dave Tompkins and Bill Preston beat Paul Bark, Judy Moody, Keith Jackman and Mo Grant; mixed pairs – won by Bill Preston and Cynthia Bird; mixed drawn triples – won by Norman Burton, Nora Flint and Fred White; men's singles - George Lancaster beat Jon Utnage 21- 9; men's singles plate - David Grimwood beat John Maury 21-6; Judy Moody beat Olive Wells 21-20.

The club will remain open during the summer - with restricted hours - until Friday July 19, when it will close for about six weeks for major refurbishment.

Olive Wells will be the Ladies County President for the coming season.
