There was a ‘Bit Of A Do’ at Thornton Church last Saturday...but it was all in the best possible taste.

Organisers held a special fundraising event - with a theme of vintage and re-cycled goods - and managed to top a initial target of £500 to boost church funds.

A spokeswoman said: “It was a fantastic day, so well attended and we would like to thank everyone.

“A great time was had by all. Our theme was so different and people found it very interesting as well as good for morning coffee, lunch and afternoon cream teas.”

A highlight was the recycled tombola with 110 prizes all wrapped in recycled paper.

There was also recycled crockery, a sale of vintage (recycled) goods and displays of flower decorations.

Les Allitt provided musical entertainment by playing an electric organ which led to dancing in the aisles.

Members of Horncastle Community Choir sang inside the church and held another session outdoors in the church grounds.

The spokeswoman added: “The support we received from everyone was amazing, even the Mayor popped in.

“Despite limited parking and facilities, we have managed to raise lots of money to keep the church running.”
