UPDATE: Horncastle driver, 19, dies after collision on B1188 at Metheringham

A 19 year old man from the Horncastle area was pronounced dead at the scene after he was involved in a two-car collision at Metheringham last night (Tuesday).

The crash happened just before 6pm on the B1188 Sleaford Road at Metheringham and police say the deceased man was driving a blue Volkswagen Polo.

Senior Investigating Officer for the collision Sgt Dave Mitchell would like to speak to anyone who was travelling along the B1188 near Metheringham around 5.50 pm and who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision or the collision itself.

A police spokesperson said the the other vehicle involved was a grey Volkswagen Golf, being driven by a 53 year old man from the Walcott area. The driver of the Golf was taken to Lincoln County Hospital but did not have serious injuries and was not detained.

The road was reopened at 10.30pm.

The name of the driver killed will be released when a formal identification has been made and family members have been informed, said the spokesperson.
