Lincolnshire County Council has postponed long-awaited work on a main route through Woodhall Spa.
The B1191 Station road was due to be closed for seven nights - starting tonight (Wednesday) - to allow resurfacing to be carried out.
However, the County Council pulled the plug on the project earlier today.
In a statement, the council said: “The works have been postponed following a review of the contractor’s programme across this and other jobs.
“They have already been delayed due to other activities on the highway network, as well as recent weather problems.
“It would be difficult to deliver the works effectively on site during the limited hours available in a residential area, bearing in mind the currently deteriorating weather.
“It has therefore been decided that it would be more appropriate to carry out the works at this site in the New Year.
“The Highway Authority will always endeavour to minimise the impact of its activities on the network and the travelling public.”
No exact date has been announced for the work to start.
The closure would have been in place between 6pm and midnight.
It was planned to divert traffic via the B1192, A153, A158 and B1191. Access to residential properties was being maintained.
Dave Chetwynd, Principal Engineer at Lincolnshire County Council, had said: “By resurfacing the road, we can extend its life span for many more years and working overnight allows us to minimise the disruption to drivers.”
