There’s still time to join the Tattershall Castle team and become a volunteer at one of our county’s most historic buildings.

An increase in visitor numbers and scheduled events prompted the team at Tattershall Castle to hold two volunteering taster days recently.

The castle has a small staff team so volunteers play an important part in the ability to offer all the experiences and services they want to deliver as a successful National Trust property.

Over 30 eager people attended over the two days. After a short introduction there were talks by Volunteer Manager Charlotte Stockdale, and Samantha Roch,e who is herself a volunteer. Samantha, who recently joined the team, shared her positive experience of volunteering with the enthusiastic audience, as well as the benefits to volunteering with National Trust.

Samantha described the sense of personal reward and the learning opportunities available through volunteering.

“Volunteering can be so much fun,” said Charlotte Stockdale, “It’s a way of making friends, gaining experience or trying something new. It’s wonderful that we’ve had applications from so many people with such a variety of skills and interests. A variety of talents is just what we need.”

The various members of the management team then gave the attendees the opportunity to find out more about various opportunities in education, conservation, visitor services, historical costume and many other roles undertaken by volunteers.

Lynette Cotterill said: “As the Assistant Visitor Services Manager at Tattershall Castle I know the true value of volunteers and service they give not only to the visitors but also the staff.

“They enable us to do so much more towards the conservation of the Castle here at Tattershall by being the first point of contact when meeting and greeting our visitor and by engaging with them throughout their visit. Things like selling Raffle tickets have an enormous impact on the money raised for special projects, and being able to call on them when in need and at busy times makes all the difference to the service we can give in the shop and other areas.”

If you would like to join the team at Tattershall Castle it isn’t too late; applications are still very welcome. Call 01526 342543.
