The cost of our district councillors is revealed

Horncastle’s three district councillors were paid more than £23,000 in allowances for the financial year ending last March.

Fiona Martin received £10,434, the late Steve Newton £7.288 and Sandra Campbell-Wardman £5,917.

The figures are revealed in a full list of allowances published by ELDC in accordance with national guidelines.

All three received the basic allowance of £4,186 while Coun Martin also received £3,935 as a special responsibility allowance and £2,307 mileage. Coun Newton, whose portfolio included car parking, also received a special allowance.

The highest figure was £23,108 claimed by council leader Doreen Stephenson. Deputy leader Craig Leyland (Woodhall Spa) received £12,741 including a special allowance of £6,277.

Other local councillor’s allowances were Stanley Avison (£5,751), William Fitzaden-Gray (£11,202), Philip Harness (£5,019) Janet Harrison (£6,257), Julia Pears (£3,983) and Peter Phillipson (£4,348).
