‘Last man’ out of Afghanistan heads home to RAF Coningsby

The last man out of a the main British base in Afghanistan is from RAF Coningsby.

Wing Commander Matt Radnall, Royal Air Force Regiment, is pictured above as he arrived back on home soil from Camp Bastion.

His troops manned watchtowers on the camp perimeter until the last possible moment, handing over each tower to Afghan security forces.

7 Force Protection Wing, with its HQ at Coningsby, is made up of RAF Regiment and RAF Police personnel from 15 Sqn, RAF Honington and 34 Sqn, RAF Leeming. The Royal Air Force Regiment are the dedicated infantry for the RAF.
