The political spotlight will be turned on Horncastle next Thursday when the town goes to the polls to elect a new district councillor.
Three candidates will be competing for the vacancy on East Lindsay District Council following the death of the highly respected Steve Newton.
The three are Richard Avison (Conservatives), Mike Beecham (UKIP) and David Roark (Independent).
Sources suggest the contest will be close, although attention will be focussed on the performance of the UKIP contender - particularly in view of the national political scene.
UKIP did well in last year’s County Council elections but failed to win the Horncastle ward.
There will also be interest in local voting patterns ahead of next year’s General Election.
