It has taken months of planning, created an endless stream of emails and paperwork and was warmly welcomed by residents.

However, there are concerns Horncastle’s first reactive speed sign is ineffective...because it is pointing in the wrong direction!

The sign is on Stanhope Road which residents claim is a ‘rat run’ with drivers regularly breaking the 30mph limit.

It records the speed of vehicles and results will be handed onto to safety experts .

According to town councillor Jonathan Ferrari, the sign is facing the wrong way.

He says the sign is pointing towards Spilsby Road and is just 40 yards away from the junction with the main A158 .

Coun Ferrari claims only a Porsche (or Ferrari) could break the 30 limit in that short distance.

Speaking at a Town Council meeting, he added: “Surely, the sign needs to be pointing back along the length Stanhope Road.

“That’s where any speeding drivers will come from. You’ll only get one or two people breaking the 30 limit coming the other way. Any results passed on now won’t be any good.”

Councillors agreed to ask contractors to turn the sign round.

The sign will be moved to other ‘hot spots’ over the coming months.
