Women's rights pioneer - Jessie Boucherett - honoured in exhibition at North Willingham

An exhibition on Lincolnshire's first women's rights campaigner opens today (July 23) at North Willingham.

This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Fawcett Society. The Society grew from the 1866 Committee that prepared a petition to Parliament asking for women to have the right to vote.

Today, it is the UK’s leading charity for women’s equality and rights, at home, in public and at work.

The Fawcett Society’s Lincolnshire Branch has prepared an exhibition to commemorate the significant role played by Jessie Boucherett in 1866.

Jessie Boucherett was born in North Willingham and maintained links with the village, Market Rasen and the county, throughout her life.

She is buried with other members of her family in St Thomas’s churchyard and it is in the church the display of her life and work will be held.

The opening event takes place this Saturday, from 10am to 3pm. The exhibition will run until August 7.

Parking is availabe at the nearby Willingham Fayre.
