They might say ‘Big Brother is watching you’ - but he could be struggling in Horncastle.
Councillors have revealed one of the town centre’s CCTV cameras is out of action after it was apparently damaged by someone firing an air-gun rifle at it.
Town clerk Gillian Mauger told a meeting of town councillors last week that the camera was situated in Bank Street.
She said police had been informed but they had been unable find who was responsible.
Mrs Mauger confirmed the council was in the process of making an insurance claim and revealed the camera would be back in action as soon as possible.
Councillors admitted they were shocked by the use of an air rifle.
Coun Maurice Lamb said: “Are we living in Dodge City?”
Meanwhile, councillors are calling for double yellow lines to be extended along West Street to boost safety.
Coun David Roark said there had been an accident recently because of a ‘bottleneck’ in the road caused by parked cars.
He suggested Lincolnshire County Council should be asked to consider extending the current yellow lines.
