In the scam, the targeted person receives a phone call from someone claiming to be from the GP surgery asking them to make an appointment to discuss their mobility needs.

During the appointment, the victim is persuaded to buy mobility aids which are either unnecessary or inappropriate - and always expensive.

PCSO Lucy Holland-Hancock said: “Your GP surgery will never ring you to sell items that you haven’t asked for or need.

“If you receive a call like this, please telephone 101 to report the details.

“Never give out personal details over the telephone, and always hang up and wait for the dialling tone to check the identity of the caller.”

Residents are asked to remind any elderly and vulnerable relatives/neighbours not to respond to these types of phone calls or to give any information to the caller.
