Volunteers rejuvenate cemetery

A small, but very willing, work party met at the Old Cemetery in Wragby during the weekend armed with strimmers, scrapers, shears and lots of ‘elbow grease’ to attack the weeds that have grown since the last major clearing job in the spring.
Last time it was a mammoth job as the area was completely overgrown and the end product was outstanding.
Many locals who walked their dogs past the site were amazed at how wonderful the cemetery looked and how accessible the area was made.
This time it was appropriate to work on the individual graves.
On the Saturday they strimmed the grass and weeds, raked up the loose rubbish and burnt it.
It was a very hot day, but by the end they could all see that it had been a job well done.
Sunday was a time for each person to undertake a grave - cleaning the headstone, trimming the grass and making sure it was as good as could be before moving onto the next one. Again, a job well done.
The work was thanks to Victor Nash, John Boothby, Janice Bones, John Edwards, Edith Nash, Paul Smith, Dave Warr and Carol Watt, with help from others.
As this will be the last time a working party will be formed through the winter months the group are asking if anyone would like to give a few ours at their pleasure cleaning and clearing around a grave.
They would be very welcome.
All one needs to do is go along armed with a ‘scraper’ soft brush and garden shears and take on one grave.
If you would like any more advice on how to do the work, or to get the cleaning equipment please contact Victor Nash on 01673 858530.
Many hands make light work and give so much pleasure to all who see the cemetery.
