Tributes have been paid to Horncastle town and district councillor Steve Newton who died last night, Wednesday February 5.
Steve had served on both councils for a number of years, but had recently been fighting cancer.
The Leader of the District Council, Councillor Doreen Stephenson said: “Steve was dedicated to his local community, making a real and positive difference to the lives of those he represented and he will be sadly missed.
“No problem was too big or small and Steve worked hard to deal with local issues on behalf of the community to make Horncastle a better place to live. From organising events that supported the town, to giving advice and guidance, or just being there as a friendly ear, Steve always made the time to help others.
“I had the privilege of working with Steve for a number or years. Steve was a man with real compassion and patience. He was also meticulous in his attention to detail and always ready to challenge the issues he believed in. Steve will be sadly missed.
“Our thoughts are with Steve’s family at what must be a very difficult time.”
Woodhall Spa District Councillor Craig Leyland said: “Steve was a good friend to many at ELDC and will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his family. God Bless Steve.”
