Lindum Homes has applied to East Lindsey District Council for permission to build up to 90 homes at a site south of Banovallum Gardens.

The outline application - which is opposed by residents and the town council - went before ELDC’s planning committee today.

Residents have already sent in a petition with more than 100 signatures and planned to send a deputation to the meeting.

However, planning officers at ELDC are recommending approval - subject to conditions.

Residents say they have a number of concerns including the risk of flooding and the creation of extra traffic in the area.

They are supported by the town council who have sent a letter of objection outlining several issues.

Apart from flooding and traffic, the council says it is worried about the impact on health and education services in the town.

In the letter, the council points out that three doctors are currently dealing with 9,000 people at the town’s only surgery.

The council says that despite a lengthy advertising campaign, no new doctors have been recruited.

The council also points out that the Lindum application is just one of several on-going bids for permission to build major new housing developments in the town.

Campaigners claim more than 1,000 homes could be built - swamping an already overstretched infrastructure.
