Pupils knitting a race track
BANOVALLUM School has been helping to knit a 400 metre track to be exhibited in Lincoln in the lead up to the Olympics celebrations.
They are joining schools and community groups across the country to create the track for the Knit2gether Lincs project and have so far stitched 20 metres.
Textiles teacher Jenny Kirkwood said: “We have had a fantastic response to the project. Students, staff and their families have contributed sections of track, large or small, which have now been joined together.
“I have been blown away by the efforts of the students and everyone involved. I expected that we might manage a few metres, but 20 is quite fantastic.
“We have stitched together sections knitted by novices and experienced knitters, side by side.
“It has been great to be involved in and I really look forward to seeing our section joined to the others and on display.”
The knitted track is due to be exhibited in Lincoln on Saturday, July 2, as part of the Lincoln Beam Festival, from 11am-4pm.
