Popular PCSO Lucy prepares for final shift

Lucy has been a familiar face in Horncastle and Wragby since joining the team last year and it’s with a heavy heart that she will be saying goodbye when she works her final shift this week.

She said: “This has been one of the nicest places I have ever worked. The job itself has been extremely satisfying and the people have been very welcoming.

“No two days have been the same. You never know what you are going to be dealing with – whether it’s going to deal with a road traffic collision or being called out to deal with sheep in the road.

“I was called out once to round up a stray cow and I must have driven around six times, asking people if they’d seen it!”

Lucy, (42) previously worked in various roles in the NHS for 16 years before joining the force in 2014, first as a volunteer PCSO in the Welton area and as PCSO in 2015.

She said: “I have always liked helping and meeting new people. A highlight was doing Bikeability with the children from Wragby Primary School as they found it really exciting to see a PCSO with them, helping them to be safe in the street.”

Lucy will be leaving the force when she completes her final shift but said: “It shall be a very sad day for me when I work my final shift.”

Horncastle Lincolnshire county councillor Bill Aron said: “I have been very impressed with how fast Lucy adapted to the events in town.

“Lucy seemed to get on with everyone, yet maintaining her position in dealing with more serious issues.

“PCSOs Nigel Wass and Lucy made an excellent team and Lucy’s departure will be Horncastle’s loss. I worked with Lucy on the Queen’s 90th committee, at Scrivelsby for the Beacon and then for the June events in town.

“Nothing was too much trouble and she certainly helped towards the events’ success. On behalf of the people of Horncastle I would like to wish Lucy all the very best for the future.”
