Police warn Lincolnshire residents over BT cable scam

Lincolnshire Police have been advised that residents in the county have been contacted by telephone by a person claiming to be from BT, stating that work needs to be carried out to their property.

A police spokesperson said that a telephone call is received from ‘BT’ staff stating that extension cables need to be laid along the owners drive way, adding that a team of workman have been instructed to carry out the work the next day.

Gill Finn, Community Safety Officer at Lincolnshire Police headquarters, said: “We can confirm that this is a scam.

“BT will not send a team of workman the ‘next day’ as all their work is scheduled in advance.

“Do not enter into a conversation with these persons, simply replace the receiver, and report any calls to Lincolnshire Police on telephone number 101.”
