From the opening brass band concert on Friday night to the closing film show on Sunday evening, the event proved to be a superb success.

Joint organiser and town mayor Coun Bill Aron said: “It was an absolutely brilliant weekend - from start to finish.

“There was something for everyone. Not even the weather on Sunday could wipe the smile off people’s faces!”

The highlight was a parade through the town centre on Saturday with streets lined by hundreds of well-wishers.

MP Victoria Atkins then opened a summer fete at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School sports field, paying tribute to the ‘outstanding community spirit’ that was on show.

The fun continued on Sunday with more than 140 people attending a ‘Big Breakfast’ at Stanhope Hall - a turn out that kept chefs Phil Cantwell and Jonathan Ferrari on their toes.

In the afternoon, the poor weather meant a fly past by the BBMF had to be cancelled but there was no stopping the town’s youngsters as they arrived at Stanhope Hall in force for a children’s street party...buns, balloons and bunting to the fore!

Individual - Tony from Clarence House

Best float - Sue Ryder

Best dressed shop window - Boams

The judging and presentations of the specially commissioned trophies was made by Gail Dymoke.

During the whole of the weekend bespoke lapel badges, designed by Banovallum student Izabella Rylance, were distributed too.
