CONINGSBY and Tattershall Lions volunteers recently completed a mammoth 108–mile Triandem journey around fellow clubs in the area.

Raising money for Measles Worldwide Initiative ‘One Shot One Life,’ team leader John Johnson and fellow Lions Bill Coutts and Andy Fletcher started their journey at Tattershall on Thursday.

They then headed for Woodhall Spa, Horncastle, Louth and Mablethorpe, collecting donations and sponsorship along the way, and even made a stop-off at Cadwell Park.

The trio were met by the BBC’s Leigh Milner and William Wright to broadcast on the Wright Show in the afternoon and Leigh even offered to participate in the circuit race against a team from Cadwell.

Taking Bill’s place, Leigh, John and Andy managed to beat the Cadwell team by nearly two minutes.

The Lions made it round in 13–minutes 54 seconds, despite Leigh losing on the track.

On Thursday evening the team were hosted by Mablethorpe Lions, and on Friday morning they headed for Skegness.

Running repairs were made to a wheel after back-up Lion Barrie Haynes arrived with spare parts.

After a street collection at Skegness the trio pedalled to Wainfleet and called in at Bateman’s Brewery where they had half a pint and a piece of cake.

They carried on to Spilsby to be hosted by the local Lions group.

On Saturday they headed for home via Boston Lions.

John said: “We left Boston for an easy ride on the flat to Gibbet Nook Petrol Station at Coningsby.”

At the petrol station they collected other cyclists, including Coningsby Mayor Martin Foster and Lions District Governor Mike Phillips.

They then cycled along the High Street to meet at Robert Bell’s shop where local Lions and president Vicki Haynes welcomed them.

Coun Foster said: “Having followed the team for about a mile on my own cycle I was full of admiration for their efforts.”
