The Rector of the Fen & Hill group of churches is standing down today (Wednesday) as he retires and returns back home in Scotland.
Reverend Canon Alec Boyd came to Mareham le Fen and is standing down after 11 years.
Canon Alec has had an exciting and full ministry as the priest in charge of both the Fen and Hill Group of Parishes and then as Rural Dean of Horncastle, during this time he was made a Canon of the Cathedral Church of Our Lady of Lincoln.
“Everytime you move on with ministry its sad to leave,” he said.
“We’ve had the opportunity to get to know the area really well and met so many people.
“One of the best parts of the job has been working with so many people and dealing with ongoing life within the parish, with schools, businesses and the farming community.”
During his time as Rector, Canon Alec has encouraged the development of a ministry team to provide leadership of worship, pastoral care, mission and ministry across the group.
He has also overseen the Bain Valley Group of Churches after their Rector retired, supporting and facilitating the ministry team there.
Canon Alec and his wife Diana will leave to return to their home in Scotland where he hopes to be able to help out at the Cathedral of Argyll and the Isles in his retirement.
