MP opens town's new£12m housing estate

Ms Atkins was speaking at the opening of the Centurian Park estate which features 106 homes and follows a ‘partnership’ between Waterloo Housing and East Lindsey District Council.

She said: “Looking around, I can see this is an outstanding development and I’m sure it will be popular. The houses and the facilities are first class. These aren’t just houses - they are homes.”

Ms Atkins unveiled a boulder that paid tribute to the Roman history of the site. Significant remains were uncovered.

The opening ceremony featured a fun afternoon of entertainment and food which was enjoyed by families and invited guests, including relatives of people who have had roads on the development named after them.

Local singer Nathanael Landskroner entertained the crowds and there were dance performances from Horncastle Primary School and Banovallum Secondary School.

The new development, which was completed in March, includes homes for rent and shared ownership - and a play area.

ELDC contributed almost £900,000 towards the project, which was also supported by nearly £2.1million of government investment.

The work,completed by GEDA Construction, included demolishing and replacing some outdated maisonettes and improving and extending the adjacent allotments.

Anthony Riley, Group Director of Development and Operations at Waterloo Housing Group, said: “We are pleased to be able to formally recognise the rich history of this site and celebrate the future of these new homes and the families who live in them.”

Portfolio Holder for Communities at ELDC, Councillor William Gray, said: “This development provides much needed quality affordable housing for local people. It is a fantastic example of partnership working.

“Over the past seven years, ELDC and Waterloo have worked together through our Housing Capital Programme. We have successfully delivered almost 1,000 affordable homes. I hope generations of local families will enjoy the benefits of living here.”

Residents included Silvi Joseph who described the development as ‘brilliant’.
