'Mobile Post Office' will take over after closures
VILLAGES in the Horncastle area which are losing their post offices in the latest round of cuts will have a mobile service for two hours a week instead, it has been revealed.
Three local branches are being shut - at Belchford, Hagworthingham and Haltham.
Details have been announced of the outreach service which will replace them.
In each case a vehicle will park up for an hour each Tuesday and an hour each Thursday to provide post office services.
At Belchford the site will be the layby outside St Peter’s Church, with a visit from 12-1 on Tuesdays and 11.45-12.45 on Thursdays.
At Hagworthingham the mobile service will be based in the layby off Church Lane from 1.30-2.30 on Tuesdays and from 1.15-2.15 on Thursdays.
In Haltham the car park at the Marmion Arms will be used from 10.30-11.30 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The exact date for the closure of the post offices is yet to be announced but officials hope there will not be “any break in service”.
A fortnight ago the News revealed that a warning had been sounded that more post offices in East Lindsey are set for the chop.
At a meeting of the district council's executive board, Coun Colin Davie predicted an announcement "later in the year" of further closures.
"We need to fight for our rural communities," he insisted. "The steady loss of services has been appalling."
He was backed by Coun Adam Grist who said there was a need to gather evidence of the impact of post office closures.
