Margaret hits a century for the NHS
Donors celebrate their life-saving achievements, left to right, Margaret Greenaway, Maurice Bradbury and Jean Wilkinson
A Horncastle blood donor has been presented with a crystal award after making 100 blood donations for NHS Blood and Transplant.
Margaret Greenaway is part of the one per cent of all blood donors who reach this milestone - a feat regarded by NHSBT as ‘an outstanding achievement’.
Jean Wilkinson, also from Horncastle, and Maurice Bradbury from Spilsby were also given awards for reaching 75 donations.
The awards ceremony took place at The Lawn, Lincoln, and the awards were presented by Sue Ormston.
Sue, aged 65, reached 74 donations before having to stop in 2011 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
According to NHSBT each donation could potentially save the lives of up to three people - which means Margaret could have potentially saved 300 patients.
Lead donor relations manager Holly Mason said: “The dedication of all these donors is wonderful.
“We hope it inspires existing donors to keep giving regularly.”
If you would like to get involved and give blood, the next sessions at Horncastle’s Stanhope Hall are on Friday March 8 and Friday April 26.
