Man, 20, stole jewellery at Kirkby on Bain house party

An open invitation for people to attend a party at a Kirkby on Bain house - run by a teenager whose parents had gone away for the weekend - led to a man appearing in court for stealing jewellery from the teenager's sister's bedroom.

Benjamin Richard James Clee, 20, of Bawtry Close, Birchwood, admitted stealing the jewellery, the property of Amy Harwood, and also to criminal damage, when he appeared at Skegness Magistrates’ Court on February 2.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said that the owners of the house at Tattershall Road, Kirkby on Bain, had gone away for the weekend and their 17 year son organised a party on January 16 with open invitations and that Clee attended.

She said that at the party, two girls were overheard to say that they would see what they could get and then go, and a search found the girls with a jewellery box open in Miss Harwood’s bedroom.

Police were called and Clee was found to have the jewellery in a tobacco pouch.

He told the officers the two girls had given the jewellery to him and admitted he was ‘stupid’ to take it.

Ms Stace said he also sprayed some paint on a wall at the house.

Mitigating, Gary Farmer said Clee did stupid things when in drink and he took the jewellery the girls gave to him.

The court was told Clee was already on bail to answer an assault charge at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court later in the month, and they adjourned this case for sentencing on the same day.
