Local Lions groups recently raised more than £1,000 after walking the entire length of the 147 mile Viking Way - the equivalent of walking from Horncastle to London.

The task, split up into seven stages of 22 miles completed every two weeks, finished with a walk from Caistor to the Humber Bridge.

Led by Horncastle Lions President Andrew Tuxworth and his dog Go Go, Derek Ashton, Tony Clark, John Dodds, Peter Houldershaw, Malcolm Padley and Bob Wayne, also of Horncastle Lions, completed the course with Barrie Haynes of the Coningsby & Tattershall Club and Pat Budge of Roughton.

The final stage was completed in the company of Isle of Axholme and Barton Lions.

The key to the success of the operation was the backup afforded by Lion David Birchall and his van who clocked up more than 1000 miles, not only transporting walkers, but also providing refreshment stops along the way.

Supporting David were Sue Tuxworth, Murial Ashton and Lions Tom Scholey and Vicky Haynes.
