Jubilee Park needs a new income stream say Friends
Any plans for the future of Jubilee Park in Woodhall Spa could be doomed - unless there is a major new income stream.
That is the opinion of the Friends of Jubilee Park (FoJP) who admit they are concerned about the on-going sustainability of the troubled complex.
FoJP were in line to take over the running of the park - until talks with Woodhall Spa Parish Council broke down recently.
The Friends stress they are prepared to continue fund-raising efforts - and voluntary work around the park - but do not want a role in any management structure.
It has emerged FoJP favoured a major new development within the park, along the lines of a health and well being suite.
They believe it would generate year-round income.
The possibility of a fitness suite was muted last year but would have involved the parish council borrowing in excess of £600,000 - guaranteed by the village precept.
Latest figures show the park makes a loss and it largely relies on seasonal revenue, notably from a caravan park and an outdoor swimming pool.
A FoJP spokesman said: “We have looked very closely at the park and we believe it cannot make a profit - if it continues to be run along the same lines as it is at present.
“It needs another income stream and a fitness and well being suite would provide that. We hope whoever takes on the park will seriously consider that.”
It is thought the parish council will use recently introduced legislation to form its own company to administer the park’s affairs.
The park’s future could be debated at council meeting on March 19, but until a decision is made FOJP will continue to work alongside councillors on a management committee.
