Jubilee Park friends mark successful year

Jubilee Park

Jubilee Park

The Friends of Jubilee Park held their AGM earlier this month and Chairman Kim Barr reported on major fundraising activities and the contributions made to the Park by FoJP members.

She paid tribute to the efforts of Julie Pole in raising funds for, and organising the replanting of, the rose gardens in the Park.

Former Vice Chairman Bruce Gordon was also praised for his work on the play area.

Kim also thanked the many volunteers who helped over the winter with gravel laying, tree planting and tending the gardens.

Thanks was also given to Park Manager Joe Stanhope for supporting the Friends in all its activities, especially in the organisation of fundraising events.

FoJP increased its membership to 259 paid up members and an appeal has been made to help recruit more members for the coming year - with a 10 per cent discount offered to the swimming pool and some of the park activities.

The Friends are also asking for volunteers to help the park. Anybody wishing to do so should contact Joe Stanhope or email friendsofjubileepark@gmail.com.

The secretary’s report informed the meeting that preparations for the coming season were in place to support a new drive for members.

Treasurer Stella Arden reported that funds were available for the imminent purchase of a giant inflatable for the pool.

Junior members Harry Barr and Hugo Finley revealed that £2,600 had been raised through sponsored swims, raffles and other events.

The juniors reminded everyone of their success last year when they installed the outdoor tennis table which generates additional income for the park.

Kim also thanked the lifeguards for their support, particularly with their long-distance sponsored swims and volunteering their time to staff the midnight swims.

Lottery Manager Patricia Duke-Cox gave a summary of the years activities and announced that £650 had been raised for FoJP funds.

Patricia urged fellow members to recruit new participants for the lottery which begins in June. She also paid a kind tribute and thanks to Richard Dunham, who sadly died last autumn.
