The News was told by several sources that leading figures on the Festival Committee had stepped down following a recent committee meeting.

However, town and district councillor Fiona Martin, who is chairman of the Festival Committee, insisted there were no issues and plans for the market were ‘progressing well’.

Coun Martin stressed there had been no ‘stormy meeting’ and the event was not in any doubt.

She revealed a number of new and traditional attractions and acts had already been booked.

A new feature will be an appearance by Santa in a specially constructed grotto in the car park of Horncastle Antiques Centre.

Coun Martin said: “Plans are progressing well for the market on Sunday December 4 from 11am until 4pm.

“Local entertainer Darren Yates will be on stage and Horncastle’s very own Young Stagers will be in town.

“Victorian stilt walkers will be roaming our streets with the reappearance of ‘Exotic Animals’ and Punch & Judy.”

Coun Martin added: “After the success of last year’s ‘Minions’ window spotting competition, the committee are organising a similar event alongside the market this year.

“Children’s rides and some old fashioned garden party type games are already arranged to ensure that this will be a great day out for all the family.

“The event will also coincide with the Christmas Tree Festival taking place in St Mary’s Church.”

One of the most popular attractions at the Christmas Market are the huge variety of stalls lining the town’s streets.

Coun Martin added: “Market stall bookings are progressing well, but it isn’t too late to book a stall

“Booking forms are available either from our website horncastlefestivals.co.uk, our Facebook page or ask a committee member.

“Our wonderful array of local shops will be open as usual.

“These events only happen because of a lot of hard work by many people who want to see our town businesses and voluntary organisations prosper.

“Put the date in your diary now.”
