Housing deal for landlords with empty property

Landlords with empty properties in towns and villages in East Lindsey are being invited to express an interest in a new scheme, which aims to bring empty homes back into use.

In partnership with East Lindsey District Council, the Waterloo Housing Group is looking to lease the empty properties from landlords who may not have the time and/or funds to refurbish them.

The scheme is being delivered with funds from the Homes and Communities Agency and enough funding has been provided to initially refurbish around 10 homes.

Waterloo Housing would refurbish the property to an agreed standard, insure it, maintain it and lease it to a tenant.

The owner would receive a regular and agreed rental income from Waterloo Housing for up to six years, at which point the property would be handed back to the owner in an improved condition.

For a two bedroom property that would otherwise be empty, a landlord could receive up to £17,000 over five years.

Portfolio holder for the built environment at East Lindsey District Council, Councillor William Gray, said: “Housing is a real issue in East Lindsey, with over 5,000 people on the waiting list.

“This scheme provides a small number of landlords with an opportunity to improve their empty properties as well as earn a rental income.”

Landlords who would like to put forward their property will need to download an application form from the council’s website or contact Helen Wright on 01507 613148.

Each scheme will be considered by the council and Waterloo Housing in line with an agreed criteria.
