It’s not every day you are invited to afternoon tea at Buckingham Palace.
However, that’s exactly what happened to staff at the British Red Cross Charity Shop in Horncastle.
They attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace recently to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross’s ‘humanitarian action’ campaign.
Three staff from the shop travelled to London - manager Sally Brown and volunteer workers Jenny Woodward and Andy Payton.
The garden party was hosted by Prince Charles, who is President of the Red Cross and Princess Alexandria who is Vice President.
Mrs Brown said: “It was an absolutely brilliant day.
“I don’t think we’ll ever forget walking in through the Palace gates. It was all a bit surreal really.
“We really enjoyed the afternoon tea. “
The three Horncastle representatives were among 6,000 Red Cross workers at the event.
They didn’t get the chance to speak to Price Charles but did see him - and other members of the royal family.
Mrs Woodward said: “We really enjoyed the whole day. It’s something we’ll probably never get to do again.”
