WOODLANDS Nursery is organising a fundraising ball for Lincolnshire’s Emergency Blood Bikes Service on Saturday October 13.

The ball, at the Abbey Lodge Hotel, Woodhall Spa, will raise money to help LEBBS cover their monthly running costs and to go towards purchasing a new bike for its fleet.

Kathy Ball, manager of Woodlands and organiser of the fundraiser, said: “I’ve arranged this to raise money for a relatively new charity.

“One of our employees, Simon, is a member of LEBBS and it’s good to raise money for something local.”

John Sharratt, spokesman for LEBBS, said: “We started up in June, and in the meantime we’ve been busy going to events and shows to raise awareness for the service we offer.

“We can transport blood products and even baby milk.”

LEBBS currently have just one bike and one car in their fleet and are looking to purchase a second bike soon.

“They aren’t the cheapest,” John continued. “You can pick up a second hand one for roughly £5,000 upwards.

“We’d be looking at about £15,000 for a brand new bike.”

The Blood Bikers only recently purchased their first bike, and are now able to display it at events and shows.

“Before it was difficult to tell people about our service when we just had a table and some signs,” John said.

“Now we have our bike we can show it off.

“People can now see what we are using.

“We took it to Revesby Show and Cadwell Park recently, and we had a lot of interest from the public.”

The service needs to raise money for new vehicles, but also to keep the existing ones on the road.

“We’ll need several
thousand pounds to keep them on the road,” John added. “We will also need to replace bikes every few years.

“One blood bike group down south clocked up 130,000 miles in one year.”

Kathy said she was hoping that the fundraising ball would raise up to £700 for LEBBS.

Tickets for the ball cost £20, to include a two course meal, disco, raffle and licensed bar and they can be purchased through Kathy at the nursery on: 01507526755

The night starts at 7.30pm and LincsFM presenter Sam Kirk will also be making an appearance.
