Have you had home insurance problems?
TOWN councillors in Horncastle are calling on anyone who has experienced problems getting home insurance after flooding to get in touch with them.
As reported in the Horncastle News earlier this month, next year will see the end of a voluntary agreement between the Government and the Association of British Insurers (ABI), which ensures insurance companies do provide cover for properties at significant risk of flooding.
Horncastle Town Councillors are concerned that some residents of the town will find it difficult to gain insurance from 2013 following the floods in 2007.
Although they can not help directly, town councillors said at their monthly meeting last week, that they would like to hear residents’ experiences of getting house cover in order to gauge the size of the problem.
The council can then see if it is worth lobbying East Lindsey District Council and Sir Peter Tapsell MP to take action.
The ABI’s current deal, which dates back to 2000, comes to an end in June 2013.
According to the ABI 200,000 homes in England and Wales face a significant flood risk, meaning they have a greater than one in 75 chance of flooding in a year.
These could become uninsurable if a new deal is not agreed.
Anyone who is concerned about their insurance, or has already faced problems, can contact the town council clerk on 01507 522957 or email info@horncastletowncouncil.co.uk
