Go Go Gladys does it again
81-year-old Gladys Tingle with her finishers medal after completing the 2012 Great North Run
MOST people in their 80s would be happy enough with resting their feet. Not Gladys Tingle.
She may have finished two hours behind the Elite Ladies winner, but the 81-year-old was pleased with her time of three hours and eight and a half minutes.
Gladys, from Horncastle, said “It was a lovely day. I really enjoyed it.
“There were lots of people and they all cheered me on.”
The Great North Run takes place every year, starting at Newcastle before the 13.1km route winds it’s way through South Tyneside.
She revealed that this was her ninth Great North Run, and she has also completed two London Marathons.
That’s only since she turned 70 11 years ago.
“I just love walking. I do six and a half miles every morning.
“I’ve raised nearly £800 this year for the Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me. I’ve done three races this year, and I’ve got one more to go.”
Gladys is taking part in the Metheringham to Sleaford walk as part of the Spires and Steeples challenge later this month.
