A businesswoman from Horncastle will be having her head shaved as part of a ladies night fundraiser which will benefit two cancer charities.
Doreen Buzzard of Glenn James, Woodhall Spa, will be having her hair clipped to a Number 4 by her younger sister on the night of the ‘Still Got Nothing To Wear’ ladies evening at Horncastle’s Admiral Rodney Hotel on Thursday November 7.
Money raised on the night will be split between Breast Cancer Research and Lincolnshire-based Candles.
Doreen said: “The idea came because I understand how difficult it is for ladies coming in to our shop for wigs.
“I’m doing this so that customers know that there are people who care and want to make a difference, and I want to feel as though I am making a difference.”
Tracey Collins, of Seaview Antiques, Horncastle, is one of the organisers for the evening.
She said: “If people hadn’t been fundraising I might not be here.”
Tracey battled breast cancer last year and Doreen said she was unsure at first whether or not she should go ahead with having her head ‘clippered’.
“I approached Tracey about the idea because she knows what it’s like,” Doreen said. “But she immediately said go for it - it’s a great idea.”
Andrea Day, local fundraising manager for Cancer Research UK said: “These ladies are amazing.
“We’re all working together to find cures and we want to reach a stage where we are able to cure and treat each form of cancer.”
The evening runs from 5.30pm to 10pm and Doreen’s head shave will be taking place at 7.30pm. Entry is £3. To donate to Doreen’s head shave visit www.justgiving.com/Doreen-Buzzard.
