Don’t miss charity auction

A BONFIRE night charity auction is aiming to raise more than £500 for charity.

When the Sebastopol Inn in Minting re-opened on August 6 last year, the new owners – David, Dianne and Nick Reed - had spent the previous day attending the funeral of James, David and Dianne’s brother-in-law, Nick’s uncle.

He had been diagnosed three years earlier with Motor Neurone Disease, an incurable condition that causes progressive weakness and wastage of many muscles in the body.

Last year at the pub’s bonfire night celebrations a charity auction raised more than £525. Another charity auction will be held this Saturday, November 3, and the aim is to surpass last year’s total. John Elliott of auctioneers JH Walters has again kindly agreed to host the auction.

The Sebastopol itself has donated a week’s stay in its newly refurbished holiday cottage as well as a three course dinner for four.

Its suppliers have also been generous in donating auction lots, including a selection of meat from Minting Park Farm, rapeseed oil from Peppers Lane and beer from Batemans, 8 Sail and Milestone breweries.

The celebrations start at 6pm with a bonfire, followed by a fireworks display.

The pub is accepting donations for the auction and anyone who cannot make it to the bonfire but would like to make a pre-auction bid can call 01507 578577 or visit the pub’s website www.thesebastopol.com and email in your bid.

All funds raised will go towards The Motor Neurone Disease Association, the only charity in the UK providing support for people affected by MND. It also funds and promotes global research into the disease.
