Council votes to keep precept at current level in ‘tough times’

Horncastle Town Council has voted in favour of setting a nought per cent increase to taxpayers with next year’s precept amount.

In a majority vote of six to two, the council has set the precept for the following financial year at £96,154.

There were also options to set the precept at £96,469, a 0.33 per cent increase or to set the precept at £111,450 - an increase to the gross precept amount of 13.44 per cent.

The council will also receive a £14,981 revenue support grant from East Lindsey District Council.

When debating the decision Mayor Fiona Martin said: “We are in tough times and we need to look hard at what we spend and how we spend it.

“Setting the increase at nought per cent is the right and proper thing to do.”
