Horncastle Community Larder, which has provided a lifeline to more than 50 families in recent months, has received a £1,000 boost.

The town’s Rotarians have handed the money over to improve the range of services offered by the Community Larder which is based at the Community Centre.

It is a vital point of help for families - and individuals - in desperate need of food and support.

The funding from the Rotarians has provided a laptop computer - and a new fridge and freezer.

Horncastle Rotary Club received ‘match funding’ in the form of a District Simplified Grant from the Rotary Foundation – Rotary’s own charity.

The club has been supporting the Community Larder with quarterly grants of £100 over the past year to buy provisions. Rotarians stress that support will continue.

The Community Larder, run entirely by volunteers, also receives donations from other community organisations, including St Mary’s Church.

The vital role the Community Larder plays was highlighted in the News recently.

More than 50 families turned to it for help in the last nine months after experiencing short-term financial problems.

Co-ordinator Richard Hampton explained people either contact the organisation directly - or are referred by other agencies.

Mr Hampton added: “Unfortunately, some members of our community are experiencing difficult times, be it homelessness, unemployment or simply delays in receiving state benefits.”

The Community Larder makes provision for emergency food and provision packs which are outside of the remit of statutory authorities.
