Centenarian Helen reveals the secret to long life

Waiting for Video...

It’s a fair bet not too many doctors would recommend it, but according to Helen Kimsey, the secret to long life is a glass of white wine every day - and a bar of milk chocolate.

She celebrated her 100th birthday last Thursday with family and friends at the Bramhall Residential Home in Tattershall.

There was the traditional telegram of congratulations from the Queen and special visit from Gill Shaw, the chairman of Tattershall
Parish Council.

Mrs Kimsey spent most of her life in Enfield, Middlesex, but moved to Tattershall 10 years ago to be closer to family, including her son Derek.

Daughter-in-law Rose said: “She’s tremendous. She has a glass of ‘Liebfraumilch’ every day - and some ‘Dairy Milk’ chocolate.

“It’s obviously working for her.”

Mrs Kimsey was married to late husband, Harry, for more than 50 years.

She has four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great grandchild who was born last Septmeber.

Rose added: “She’s always been very active and I think that has helped.

“She lived in her own house until she was 90 and was happy doing her own gardening and decorating.

“She could turn her hand to anything.”

“She was very independent and loved tthings like painting and dress-making.”.

Mrs Kimsey’s celebrations included a special message from great grandson Nathan who is in Australia with the England Elite golf squad.
