Woodhall Spa Airfield will feature on BBC’s Countryfile programme this Sunday.
Presenter Matt Baker visited the airfield a couple of weeks ago.
During the last year, the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust has been raising funds to buy the site and turn it into a nature reserve.
The Trust say it is ‘very close’ to the amount required.
The Countryfile team were shown around the airfield which was a base for the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron in the Second World War.
More recently, the site has been quarried for sand and gravel.
Matt also learned about Victorian naturalist Joseph Burtt Davy who wrote a detailed diary in the 1890’s.
He also visits the Lincolnshire Aiviation Heirgate Centre at East Kirkby where he enjoys a taxi ride on a Lancaster bomber.
