The speed limit on Boston Road in Horncastle looks sets to be lowered after the town council unanimously backed plans put forward by Lincolnshire County Council.
Residents and campaigners have been campaigning for the 40mph limit on part of the road to be dropped to 30mph for years.
Now, following a countywide review of speed limits on A and B roads, the 30mph will extend a further 120 metres along the road so that it comes into force prior to the entrance to the town’s cemetery.
The 40mph limit will then be extended a further 30 metres out of town, part of the road which is currently covered by the national speed limit.
The scheme gained the unanimous support of Horncastle Town Council at their meeting this week.
And Coun Matthew Wilkinson hoped this may lead to a revision of the speed limit in other areas of town too.
He said: “I would like to suggest to Coun Aron that the county council revises Lincoln Road.
“I know we have been lobbied by residents in the past, but I do think Lincoln Road would benefit from a 30mph limit.”
