Annual Asterby procession and Easter church services
The annual Parish of the Asterby Group Good Friday procession of the cross and open air service at Red Hill, Asterby, attracts people from a wide surrounding area and this year it is held on Friday March 29 starting at the bottom of the hil at 10am.
Everyone is welcome to join the congregation for the special service, during which the story of the first Good Friday is told, led by six people carrying three crosses.
At the top the crosses are erected and hymns sung accompanied by the Bannovallum Brass Band, readings, prayers and a short address.
Those who would have difficulty walking up the hill can still take part as there is plenty of designated car parking available at the top where the procession can be viewed as it winds its way up.
On Palm Sunday, March 24, a procession will will led from Horncastle Methodist Church at 10am, to St Mary’s for Holy Communion. A
A service of Holy Communion will also be held at St Martin’s Church, Scamblesby at 10am, followed by a Praise Service at Dr German’s Church, Ranby with Market Stainton at 3pm and a service of Healing and Wholeness at St Helen’s Church, Burgh on Bain at 6pm.
There will be a Maundy Thursday Service at 6pm at St Helen’s Church, Burgh on Bain, on March 28 and on Easter Sunday, March 31, the Easter Parish of the Asterby Group Communion Service will be held St Julian’s Church, Benniworth at 10am.
In Horncastle on Easter Sunday at 10am there will a communion, renewal of Baptism vows and celebratory lunch at St Mary’s Church from 10am. There will also be a group communion at Bamber from 10am.
