£84k grant helps Wragby Church to raise the roof

The money has come from the Government-funded Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund.

The renewal of the lead gutters and tower roof, together with the associated timber repairs, will replace the lead coverings that have been in place for more than 100 years.

The work will stop the leaks that have been occurring at intervals over the last few years and give the church a new lease of life for the next 80 years for worship and service in the community.

The church was opened in 1838 and replaced the former church which was demolished as a result of severe subsidence.

The ruined foundations of the earlier church can be seen in the old churchyard beyond the end of Cemetery Way.

The work being undertaken through this grant will be the second time the lead gutters and tower roof have been renewed since the original construction.

The money is part of a wider funding package of £22.9million to 401 historic places of worship across the UK.

The fund was launched by the Chancellor in his Autumn Statement in December 2014 and the funding package has now seen a total of 903 places of worship across the UK receive a share of £55million.
