Commemoration - Somme support

On behalf of the Horncastle & District Branch, I would like to thank everyone who attended our service to mark the centenary of the start of the Battle of the Somme, in which 22 local men were killed.

In addition to the family members who took part in the service by placing the individual remembrance crosses, I would especially like to thank the following: the trustees of the War Memorial Centre for sponsoring the event; the Rev Avril Ford for a very moving service; Coun Bill Aron for his advice, guidance and practical help; John Nowik for providing the PA system and music; Malcolm Shackleton for his excellent rendition of The Last Post and Reveille; PCSO Nigel Wass and his colleagues for their sympathetic traffic management; the Horncastle News for its generous reports before and after the event.

Our thanks to you all for continuing to support RBL events and proving once again that Horncastle remembers.

Mike Allard
