According to the experts, it has been one of the hottest Aprils on record. Not that Verity Oliver has noticed.

The News revealed that the mum-of-two from Horsington was having a Mohican-style head shave to raise money for a children’s cancer unit at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The centre is close to Verity’s heart as her teenage son Connor Creasey (17) has been undergoing treatment for cancer for many years.

Verity and family friend Steve Blow both had Mohicans while her brother Tudor Oliver (34) had his head completely shaved.

However, their brave efforts certainly paid off as the hair-raising experience has raised over £2,000.

Verity said: “It was definitely worth it, especially when you know what a great job they do at Queens.

“They have been brilliant with Connor.

“It has felt a bit colder and I’ve got a few funny look but I’m used to that.”

Verity admitted she is delighted to have raised so much money.

She is already planning future events - but has ruled out another hair-cut.
