The unexpected death of her father from a heart attack at the age of 48 devastated Megan Barker and her family.
Now the 23-year-old from Woodhall Spa is helping to fund more research into heart disease.
She will be aiming to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in June for national charity Heart Research UK.
Megan, who is a trainee solicitor at Wilkin Chapman LLP in Lincoln, will be taking part in the event on June 20.
She hopes to raise as much as she can so that fewer people have to suffer what her father Tim Barker went through.
She said: “My dad was a keen football fan and used to be a linesman for my brother’s football team right up until a few weeks before he died.
“It all happened so quickly. He had a series of heart attacks caused by coronary heart disease and within three weeks he had died.”
Megan said that heart disease was a long-standing problem in her father’s family and he went to see his GP when he started becoming short of breath.
Tim, who was a financial adviser for a Boston law firm which prompted Megan’s own interest in a legal career, passed away in March 2011.
Now, his daughter has set about raising funds for Heart Research UK.
She completed the Manchester Marathon two years ago and is determined to take onthe daunting Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.
