Hundreds of people descended on Horncastle for the 10th annual Lincolnshire Wolds Walking Festival’s finale weekend.

The event attracted visitors from as far afield as Nottingham, Kings Lynn, Doncaster and Bourne.

On Saturday May 31 Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust held an Open Day at Snipe Dales Country Park.

A number of walks were hosted around Horncastle, and the Sir Joseph Banks Crafters’ Guild held a craft fair to complement to town’s market.

The day concluded with a barbecue provided by the Horncastle and District Lions Club.

The final day on Sunday June 1 offered an extensive walk programme with leaders from the Ramblers, Linkisheer Walds Walks, the Sir Joseph Banks Society, East Lindsey Health Walks and East Lindsey Hear Support Group.

The walks ranged from long countryside forays to short heritage ambles around Horncastle culminating with live music and refreshments at the Stanhope Hall.

Festival coordinator Nicki Jarvis said: “We are highly delighted with what was a fantastic event.

“The whole town embraced the walking festival and the turnout was huge.

“We are really pleased that the Horncastle Walkers are Welcome group hosted the finale and they were superb.

“The group were very keen for us to be in Horncastle and the success of the event justified our decision to host it there.”

Provisional dates for 2015 have been released with the 11th annual Wolds Walking Festival to take place between May 16 and May 31 2015.
