A successful Horncastle church is changing its name - because it wants to present a trendier image.

The Horncastle Christian Fellowship has been in existence for more than 30 years.

It attracts worshippers alongside St Mary’s Church and the town’s Methodist and Roman Catholic churches.

But it will now be known as Life Church, Horncastle.

Pastor John Lechler told the News: “Very rarely do churches change their names. In fact, this is probably unprecedented in Horncastle.

“However, we felt we need to move with the times and - if you like - be a bit trendier.”

The church started in the 1980s with a service in the front room of a house at Langton Hill.

The leader was Bob Lenton, then a reporter on the Horncastle News.

Mr Lechler took over as pastor in 1989.

The church meets at the town’s Community Centre with Sunday services held at 10.30am.

The congregation regularly numbers between 40 and 50 and Mr Lechler estimates the church has raised more than £80,000 for various charities, including a children’s home in Katmandu.
