Headteachers at the area’s top performing primary schools have revealed the secret to their success - good, old fashioned hard work.

A number of schools in the area are riding high in the latest county rankings .

They are based on figures released by the Government following annual SATS examinations.

Locally, the Edward Richardson Primary School in Tetford and St Andrews CE Primary School in Woodhall Spa are leading the way.

Figures show 94 per cent of pupils in Year Six at both schools attained the expected level four standard in English and Maths.

Wragby Primary School and Horncastle Community Primary School were ranked just behind on 93 per cent.

The average score nationally was 79 per cent and 81 per cent across Lincolnshire.

Andrew Hyde, headteacher at the Edward Richardson School, said he was delighted, but played down the significance of league tables which he claimed were “best left to football.”

He explained: “We are extremely proud of our staff and pupils this year - and every year in all areas - not just SATS.

“Tests are useful in school but are meaningless unless judged against individual potential.

“Aggregating such data and putting it into league tables as a means of comparison of schools without contextual information is at best unhelpful and can be misleading.”

Andy Craven headteacher at Horncastle Community Primary School, said: “We are very pleased and I’m sure all heads would tell you it’s down to the hard work of everyone - pupils, staff and parents.”

Results at most local schools were all up on 2011 with Bardney, Kirkby on Bain and Mareham le Fen all performing well.

Schools in Donington on Bain, Coningsby and Tattershall finished lower down the list.
