QEGS netball team in new strip

Netball players from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Horncastle certainly looked the part when they competed in a regional final of a national tournament.

The U-14s proudly wore a new strip - as our picture (above) shows.

It was handed over the by the school’s Parents Association.

Chairman Nicky Webb made the presentation to team captain Phoebe Merritt, watched by team members and teacher-in-charge Mrs J Parsons.

In the tournament, QEGS represented Lincolnshire against rivals schools from Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The action took place on a round-robin format and in their first game, QEGS stormed to a 6-1 victory against Northampton High School.

Competition was fierce against Repton, Nottingham High School and Oakham.

Many of the games went down to the last few seconds and QEGS knew every goal they scored - or prevented - would be vital.

QEGS attacked - and defended - with plenty of spirit and the entire team produced a great passing game.

After some hard fought contests, QEGS managed to take a highly creditable third place in their group.

That left them in a play-off for fifth and sixth place overall.

The team came up against Leicester Grammar School and despite a battling performance, QEGS were pipped 9-8.

Still, QEGS took plenty of positives from the event.
